Grace believes that architecture should be beautiful and uplifting. At the heart of the process are the people that architecture is made for. Grace enjoys understanding and collaborating with different people from different walks of life. She believes that every project is unique and works hard at crafting spaces that are thoughtful and a breath of fresh air, working with expert consultants to form a bespoke dedicated team appropriate to each project.The practice specialises in community buildings, houses, small galleries and museums, churches and commercial buildings. The attitude is that whatever the budget, great spaces can still be created with care and attention.
Grace has taught at the Manchester School of Architecture, as part of the Continuity in Architecture atelier. She also teaches at Northumbria University. She was a Director and Trustee of The Mustard Tree charity for 7 years, a charity for the homeless and marginalised in Manchester and is still actively involved as Architectural Advisor for all building projects.

We think architecture can improve your life. We care about the process, who we work with, and how projects are delivered just as much as the end result. We take a bespoke approach to each residential project because every home, family and context is different and has hidden potential. A substantial community engagement process informed this feasibility study in West Newcastle.
We're a small architectural practice who go the extra mile to help you think through and deliver your project. We're not afraid to get involved with big picture strategic thinking and take a proactive problem-solving approach to help you deal with issues that crop up. We work across all sectors, with emphasis on community projects, bespoke homes and public buildings.
Most of our work is in the Tyneside area, although we will consider work further afield if the project has special merit. As a guide, projects we take on start from 100,000 (construction cost ex-vat). We also offer the option to book a Zoom consultation to explore the possibilities for your project.

Both Grace and Rob at Grace Choi Architecture have been an absolute pleasure to work with. They are both professional and personable and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to others - indeed we already have! They understood the needs of our family and the constraints of our budget and came up with a design that was beautifully elegant, practical and just what we asked for (and more!).
We asked them to project manage our build as well. They recommended building companies that were the most suitable and managed the tender process so that we ended up with a building company (True North) who were just the right company to realise their beautiful design. We also asked Grace and Rob to manage our build, which was enormously helpful in terms of making sure that the build met their specifications, ran as close to time as possible and was delivered within budget. We honestly can't recommend Grace Choi Architecture enough; we now have a beautiful family home that we love living in!

Grace Choi Architecture took on the task of transforming the mess of a huge warehouse full of junk, behind the scenes at REfUSE Cafe, into a beautiful, simply designed and highly functional space. Including an extension to our kitchen, storage units bespoke to the work that we do, and all the details to make our logistics more streamlined - from outside taps to automatic lights.
From the start, they worked to understand our values and vision as an organisation, as well as the details of how we work day to day, and designed the space to fit. Their commitment and support in managing the project and overseeing CDM through the building stage took a huge amount of stress away from me, and was managed professionally. The whole project happened within the time and financial budgets they estimated.
Our community cafe is now open again after a year of closure due to Covid, and all the volunteers and staff team are loving the new kitchen and warehouse rooms. It just gives us so much more breathing space and organised processes, and so much space for growth, too. So thank you from all of us at REfUSE!
